What to Expect on Your First Day of College

The first day of school may be nerve racking, but the first day of college can be terrifying! Today i'm going to tell you what to expect on your first day so you won't be too nervous.

Parking. If you're driving to school expect the worst! Go an hour early before class to find parking. If you live in the city this is definitly going to affect you! Don't be scared of walking half a mile to class, any parking spot on the first day is AMAZING! You don't wanna be late for your first day of class!! However, this dies down in the next month because kids tend to skip class, or drop out.

Loner! Being alone in college is totally acceptable! Why is it acceptable? Because not everyone has the same schedule and time for classes. You'll see a lot of people alone during their lunch or break times. Don't be afraid to talk to people and ask if you can sit with them. Also, take a good look of the people around your class, if you see them sitting alone, why not go talk to them? If you're too shy to go talk to people, go to the library and study in the tables, or go to your student activities center! I didn't find my group of friends til the next two months of college!

Class. Classes can range to 2 people-200 people, depending where your campus is. In my first semester of college I only had 3 people in my english class. Why? Because my college was in the middle of no where. But now, I transfered to a college in the city and now I have a regular class room size on 35, and my biggest class of 100. In class, the professor will introduce themselves and usually, you'll go over the syllabus and he or she will answer any questions concerning assignments and tests and stuff like that. Don't be afraid to ask because the professors are there for a reason! Also, some professors like to have ice breakers on the first day and go over the syllabus on the second or or the following week. During ice breakers, you will have to introduce yourself to the class (sometimes in front of the class I have a post about public speaking here) and talk about yourself. Don't forget to have a copy of the map on your phone just in case you get lost. Don't be scared to ask people where a building or a classroom is. Usually on the first day, there will be booths all around campus so kids can ask where a classroom is.

Clubs. There will probably be posters and people handing out flyers for clubs and activities. GO TO THEM! You will make tons of friends when you go sign up for a club. This is a good tip if you are a freshie or if you transfered to a new college. Make sure to go to every club meeting so you can show your leader that you are totally responsible. But, it's okay to not go to clubs everyonce in a while! Education first! They'll understand!

What are your tips for back to school?
